In an email sent to the campus community on May 12, President Padilla announced that Rick AmRhein will be stepping down from his role as Vice President for Community and Government Relations on June 30, 2021. He will be taking a sabbatical then returning to his prior position as a member of the library faculty.

AmRhein began his work at Valpo in 1999, overseeing the production of the Christopher Center for Library Information Services and serving as Dean of Library Services. Following these roles, he has served the university in several other capacities, including Chief Information Officer, Chief of Staff, Vice President for Community and Government Relations. He also currently oversees VUPD, the Confucius Institute, and the University’s COVID-19 response.

His responsibilities will be distributed and reassigned. Chief of Staff Rebekah Arevalo will head Information Technology, General Counsel Darron Farha will be in charge of VUPD, the president’s office will maintain government and community relations, and Vice President for Student Life Steven Janowiak will lead the response to COVID-19 with a working group.

This is a developing story. The Torch will update this story as more information becomes available.
