With Sept. 22 quickly approaching, it is almost time for fall to begin. While each season has its advantages, I like fall the most.
For one, there is finally a reprieve from the heat of the summer, but the freezing winter temperatures have not yet arrived. So while the mornings and nights can be cooler, the days are usually just the right temperature. Fall is the perfect blend of hot and cold weather, perfect for sweatpants and a sweater, but not yet requiring a winter coat. Also most of the snow seems to hold off until the winter season or later fall so I don’t have to worry about going to class in the snow.
Fall is also a beautiful season. I love seeing the leaves change from green to red, orange and yellow creating picturesque scenery. It is fascinating to watch this process gradually happen over the course of the season. I find this to be much prettier than the barren trees of the winter months. The colorful leaves and nice temperatures make going on walks around campus more enjoyable.
I like putting up fall decorations and think they help to signify that the season has really begun. I recently purchased a fall hedgehog decoration that I have put on my desk to brighten up my dorm room. I also decorate more specifically for both Halloween and Thanksgiving.
Another standout of the fall season is the food and drinks. I will admit to being a fan of all things pumpkin spice: drinks, cakes and more. Additionally, apple cider makes for a great fall treat, I prefer to drizzle caramel in mine as well.
Fall also has many nice smells. I’m a big fan of the Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin scent from Bath and Body Works in both the candle and soap versions. Another favorite of mine is the Cinnamon Sticks scent.
The fall season also contains both Halloween and Thanksgiving. It’s fun to dress up and watch scary movies with friends. I also enjoy carving pumpkins every year around Halloween even though I am not a very artistic person. During the Thanksgiving holiday, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and also expressing thanks for all that I have in my life.
Additionally, there are many fun fall activities, such as visiting orchards like County Line or Goebberts back in my home state of Illinois. There I visit pumpkin patches, go on hay rides and pick apples. I also enjoy finding my way out of corn mazes with friends. It is also really nice to spend time studying in Mueller’s common area by the fireplace, especially as it gets cooler outside.
While fall typically indicates the start of the school year or is at the very least associated with the start of the school year, it is also a time that I get to spend with friends that I haven’t seen over the summer, as well as spend time with family during the Thanksgiving holiday. What I like the most about fall is how it seems to bring people together whether it’s the holidays or enjoying the picturesque nature on campus.
