Valpo Basketball

New opponents and familiar ones are on the horizon for Valparaiso University (Valpo) men’s basketball team this season. The team announced a bulk of their non-conference schedule Aug. 11 on

Valpo announced seven non-conference games to start off the 2021-2022 season. The team only had three home non-conference games last season.

The team will start the season with two exhibition matches against two Division II opponents. On Saturday, Oct. 30, Valpo plays against Ashland University. The Beacons take on Flagler College on Thursday, Nov. 4. 

Valpo will open up their regular season against the University of Toledo on Tuesday, Nov. 9. The last time Toledo was in the Athletic Recreation Center was on Nov. 5, 2019. Valpo was able to win 79-77 when former Valpo guard Javon Freeman-Liberty hit a jump shot with four seconds left on the clock. 

The Beacons will take on University of Illinois Chicago next on Saturday, Nov. 13. The last time UIC played in the ARC was on Jan. 22, 2017 when the program was in its final year in the Horizon League. The team beat UIC 96-65. 

From Nov. 22-24, the team will play in the Baha Mar Hoops Nassau Championship tournament. After that, Valpo will come home to play Trinity Christian College on Saturday, Nov. 27.

Valpo will then travel on Dec. 5 to play against Western Michigan. On Saturday, Dec. 11, Valpo will play at home against the University of Charlotte. The program is currently 4-3 overall against the 49ers, but lost last against them on the road in the 2019-2020 season. 

For the first time in 34 seasons, Eastern Michigan will come to play at the ARC on Monday, Dec. 20. The last time both teams matched up was with a 79-85 loss for the Beacons. 

For the first time in program history, Valpo will play against the College of William & Mary on Wednesday, Dec. 22. The Tribe went 7-10 last season with a conference record of 4-6. 

The last game announced for Valpo will be a home game against Prairie View A&M on Tuesday, Dec. 28. 

According to the press release from, more non conference games and the MVC schedule will be announced at a later date.
